Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful"

Context & Usage

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his companions to begin every significant action with Bismillah. This includes eating, drinking, entering the home, beginning work, and starting any good deed. It is a means of seeking Allah's blessings and protection.

بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا

Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya

"In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live."

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Alhamdu lillahi alladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhi an-nushur

"All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us, and unto Him is the resurrection."

The Prophet ﷺ taught this Dua to be said immediately upon waking, thanking Allah for granting us another day of life.
